Vir Chakra (VrC)

On 13 September 1961, an attack on an enemy position in Radio Katanga in Congo was resisted by the gendarmerie with heavy and automatic fire from light machine guns, rifles and grenades. Sepoy Phole Ram located one of the light machine guns, charged it, threw a grenade and killed one of the light machine detachments and wounded the other. However, before he could destroy the enemy light machine gun, he was wounded fatally by a burst from it. He died while being evacuated.
