Vir Chakra (VrC)

On 13 December 1971, Subedar Pahlad Singh was commanding a platoon of a company, which was ordered to capture an enemy locality in the Eastern Sector. The locality consisted of a network of bunkers, the capture of which involved going deep into enemy territory. The advance was to be carried over open ground devoid of any cover during daylight. Subedar Pahlad Singh led the assault. On nearing the bunkers, he was wounded by a burst from an MMG, but he pressed on the attack till complete success was achieved in hand-to-hand fight. In this action, Subedar Pahlad Singh displayed gallantry, leadership and devotion to duty of a high order.
